Slowing Down

Friday, May 29, 2009

I don't know what it is lately but it seems everywhere I turn someone is writing, talking, teaching, singing, ...about slowing down. About being present, taking breaks, and turning off the "noise" we have come to view as life.

A few months ago I had a pressing need to get away from this place I love to call home. I just felt claustrophobic in many ways and needed some air. I hopped on the 405 North and made my way up the coast to a little town outside of Pismo Beach, Nipomo, and spent a few days visiting my grandma in the country. It was sooo peaceful. The air smelled clean and I could hear the birds chirping. I heard my own footsteps crunching the leaves on the dirt road and laughed when Avenue tried to play with a stink bug. In that moment something changed. I called Matt and said, "Ummmmm I think I wanna move." I think we were both in shock for a moment that those words had been uttered from my lips. I love southern CA. But its true, suddenly I'm done. I am craving fresh air, longer days, space... Luckily for me, Matt was all about it. In 8 weeks or so we begin a new adventure.

I loved reading this. Maybe because my most recent move to Reno made for a huge change of pace for me. I was scared to leave Orange County and everything that I've loved and been comfortable with - but since making the move to a place much smaller, more "down home", and much more quiet....I've found myself happy and content and full of inspiration and wonderful surroundings. I'll be praying for you and Matt, but I'm so excited for you two. What an awesome plan God has for you!!

How exciting - the renewing feeling of starting over in a new place is so refreshing. The slowing down to take it all in, to do and go where we haven't gone --- we only live once right! Enjoy...
This is one of my favorite quotes --- very fitting:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream." - Mark Twain

I can't believe how much I'm going to miss you, but I can't wait to visit and do some central cal surfing sesh's! You are going to bless that area with your presence, I'm jealous of Nipomo. BUT, SO EXCITED for what is in store :)
